Super Bowl week is here! This year, we’re hosting our 11th Super Bowl watch party, and it felt like the perfect time to share how we decorate for the “Big Game.” I take a different approach than most. What started years ago as DIY projects and party store décor has evolved into something more purposeful — an everyday look with a subtle nod to the moment. Today, I’m taking you on a tour of my elevated, curated approach to Super Bowl home decor.
I don’t decorate for the Super Bowl like a party store exploded in my house. I decorate the same way I decorate for everything else — classy, curated, and intentional, just with a nod to the occasion. Instead of banners and disposable décor, I layer in pieces that feel elevated and cohesive with my home. The result is festive without being cheesy, and it works whether you’re hosting a crowd or just watching the game with your family.
Each year’s Super Bowl refresh focuses on transforming a few key spaces — one at a time — so nothing feels overwhelming, physically or visually. It’s an ongoing curation throughout the year, collecting small touches that fit my aesthetic and can be reused in different ways.
The Overall Approach
My decorating philosophy for events like the Super Bowl is simple:
- Neutral base
- Small themed accents
- Symmetry and balance
- Zero clutter
- Everything still feels like my house — just updated for the occasion.
The Fireplace
The fireplace is the heart of our living room, so it’s the largest area I decorate. I lean into decor that hints at the game without relying on plastic or disposable pieces. I tucked football helmets (similar to these), bronze statues, and items made from wood into the shelves alongside some of my everyday neutral pieces. The goal is a strong “hint” of football, not a full blown takeover.
For the Super Bowl, I keep the styling minimal:
- A few football-themed accents
- Neutral books and decor mixed in
- Space left intentionally open
Nothing screams “theme,” but everything feels intentional.
The Tablescapes

For the dining tables, I keep the base layers neutral and swap out only the accent pieces. It’s all about layering — woven table runners, leather footballs, glass candles, wooden candlesticks, and deep green tones. Since we use both dining rooms regularly (and during the event), I want the spaces to stay functional as well as beautiful.
The Small Kitchen Nook
Near my cooktop, I have a small raised shelf that I style seasonally. A lamp always lives there, and the decor rotates throughout the year. For football season, I added a football helmet next to my mom’s vintage silver console-up lamp. It’s a subtle, meaningful way to bring in the theme while keeping the decor timeless. A few curated pieces here truly go a long way.
Why This Works
Decorating for events doesn’t have to mean clutter, storage bins, or disposable pieces.
By styling a few key spaces, you get:
- A cohesive look
- Less stress
- Decor that feels like home — just updated
The Super Bowl Party loading screen might say “Upload Complete,” but the real win is a space that feels intentional, calm, and welcoming.
You’ll notice I didn’t link or tag specific decor pieces here — and that’s intentional.
Over the years, I’ve learned that thoughtful decorating isn’t about chasing trends or buying one-time-use items. It’s about slowly collecting pieces that work across seasons and styles.
In future posts, I’ll start sharing how I source versatile decor — the pieces that earn their keep year after year — and how I decide what’s worth adding to my home (and what’s not). For now, this post is about the approach, not the shopping list.
